Didy Veldman

Since 2000 a Freelance Choreographer and Contemporary Dance Teacher. I trained in Amsterdam and danced with Scapino Ballet, Ballet Genève, Rambert, and co-founded Alias Company in 1992. Choreographing started in 1987 through workshops, while a professional dancer, and continued in 2000 after leaving my dancing career behind. I have created over 50 works for 30 international companies including, Birmingham Royal Ballet, Goteborg Ballet, Cedarlake, Rambert Dance Company, Cullberg Ballet, Geneva Ballet, Introdans NL, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montréal, Komische Oper Berlin, and Royal New Zealand Ballet.

Most recently a new full evening version of Carmen was created for Principal dancer of the Royal Ballet, Natalia Osipova, which had its London premiere in May of 2022 and toured to Athens and Israel. Humanoove is my own London based dance company, with support from Arts Council England and private donors, we have toured 3 productions nationally and internationally.

I was awarded a Dance East choreographic development award and got selected for the 8th rural retreat for future leaders in dance at The Jerwood Dance House. As a teacher I have worked with Rambert School, Palucca Hochschule in Dresden, Paris Opera School, Dutch National Ballet School and the school at Jacob’s Pillow in the USA. I’ve been part of the Prix de Lausanne on numerous occasions as a contemporary teacher and choreographer and currently I am The Royal Ballet School’s Contemporary Programme Manager.
